Rental of gliders and training courses
Aerodrome of Fuentemilanos
For this, it is only necessary to be a pilot of a glider (with the license and the medical examination in force) and to previously carry out a verification / s of competence in flight in glider by any of our instructors.
You can have our two-seater gliders to fly alone or in the company of friends, femiliars, another pilot, etc. as well as our single-seater to perform training and distance flights.
During the year we conducted a series of courses (abnormal maneuvers, taking off-field, instructors and adaptations to the distance flight) aimed at perfecting your piloting that are taught by our instructors in a personalized way.
:: Weather information of the day.
:: Some possible cross-country circuits adapted to the conditions of the day.
:: Tracks in use and safety recommendations for approach and landing.
:: Questions and questions.
A day flight away in Fuentemilanos begins one hour before the briefing with a flight at 10,000 feet to conduct the survey of the weather conditions. For the new pilots at the aerodrome, a welcome briefing is given explaining all aspects of the operation of flights as well as a guide to possible alternative fields to land on. You can download this presentation here.
The daily briefing is carried out following said survey flight at times that are stipulated depending on the weather. Normally in June, first half of July, second half of August and September is at 11 am local. In the second half of July and the first half of August it takes place at 10 am local time.
Use of FLARM: During the high season and due to the high number of aircraft, the use of Flarm at the aerodrome is mandatory. We recommend to all those who visit our aerodrome such equipment that considerably increases the safety of a collision in flight.
They also have an added advantage to be able to acquire it for very little more with an SD card reader in which the team downloads the files of the flights in IGC format for use or download in OLC although it is not yet valid as a FAI system or for motorized sailplanes by not having an engine noise level sensor.
Our aerodrome is strategically located on the north face of the Sierra de Guadarrama, on the Spanish northern sub-plateau, at 1,000m above sea level. This entails a thermal differentiation between day and night of about 15-20ºC, with maximums around 30-35ºC.
This makes the area exceptionally suitable for sailing and thermals normally 3-4 m / s, even 5 m / s, as well as long days of thermal activity (8-9h). All this together with a mountain range of 300 km in length and the ideal distance from it (8 km), to be able to take advantage of the north wind its slope and with south wind the mountain wave of up to 6,000-8,000 m AGL, without forgetting the famous line of convergence of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The distance flights are easy to find in the geographical half of this mountain range, 150 km east and west, with fields and alternative aerodromes in both directions.
Our good weather makes it possible to sail on most days, with great visibility and cloud roofs above 3,000 m MSL. In spring, the prevailing winds produce good days of hillside and wave on the nearest mountain, as well as the increase of humidity at this time produces fantastic clusters throughout the area.
In this specialty of flights our airfield is among the top ten in the world with a great reputation in it.
